Steamboat companies came and went quickly as different ones vied for monopoply on the river. The People's ran on the Willamette River.This would grade XF or AU, as it has a single horizontal fold. USIR Receipt for Special Tax
United States Internal Revenue Receipt for Special Tax, Coupeville, Island County, Washington Territory, 1869. Although the amount of the tax is not noted, Samuel Hancock was apparently taxed for having a stallion on Whidbey Island.Paper items from Island County are very scarce. This one has some minor splits at folds, and a small tear above the U in Revenue. A small hole is also evident at the right. Price $95.00 + shipping.

R15 Adhesive Revenue attached, pen cancelled (Initials & date).
This check is drawn on the account of the Oregon Iron Company, an early iron smelting operation that had a company store and issued their own company store scrip.
The piece has some toning from age, but not as much as the scan would indicate. Price: $35.00 + shipping.

Hussey, Bond & Hale Receipt
Hussey, Bond & Hale Receipt,, San Francisco, CA, 1853. Made out to "Messrs. Failing & Co.". Later, the firm would be known as Corbett & Failing, and they would become the major hardware firm in the Oregon Territory, and on into Statehood. Even though this piece is datelined San Francisco, many collecters knowledgable about early Portland will consider this to be an Oregon Territory item. A nice early example of the early trade between Oregon Territory and California. Price $85.00 + shipping.
