People's Transportation Co. Receipt People's Transportation Co. Receipt

People's Transportation Co., Salem, Oregon, 1870. A receipt for freight (10 packages, 20 feet.). Items from this steamboat company are rarely seen. Steamboat companies came and went quickly as different ones vied for monopoply on the river. The People's ran on the Willamette River.

This would grade XF or AU, as it has a single horizontal fold.

Price $80.00 + shipping.

USIR Receipt for Special Tax USIR Receipt for Special Tax

United States Internal Revenue Receipt for Special Tax, Coupeville, Island County, Washington Territory, 1869. Although the amount of the tax is not noted, Samuel Hancock was apparently taxed for having a stallion on Whidbey Island.

Paper items from Island County are very scarce. This one has some minor splits at folds, and a small tear above the U in Revenue. A small hole is also evident at the right.

Price $95.00 + shipping.

Ladd & Tilton, Bankers check Ladd & Tilton, Bankers check

Ladd & Tilton, Bankers, Portland, Oregon, 1868.

R15 Adhesive Revenue attached, pen cancelled (Initials & date).

This check is drawn on the account of the Oregon Iron Company, an early iron smelting operation that had a company store and issued their own company store scrip.

The piece has some toning from age, but not as much as the scan would indicate.

Price: $35.00 + shipping.

Portland, Oregon Sight Draft Portland, Oregon Sight Draft

Portland, Oregon Sight Draft, 1864. Payable at the Ladd & Tilton bank, the first bank established in the Oregon Country.

R5 adhesive revenue attached, pen cancelled (X).

Price $28.00 + shipping.

Hussey, Bond & Hale Receipt Hussey, Bond & Hale Receipt

Hussey, Bond & Hale Receipt,, San Francisco, CA, 1853. Made out to "Messrs. Failing & Co.". Later, the firm would be known as Corbett & Failing, and they would become the major hardware firm in the Oregon Territory, and on into Statehood.

Even though this piece is datelined San Francisco, many collecters knowledgable about early Portland will consider this to be an Oregon Territory item.

A nice early example of the early trade between Oregon Territory and California.

Price $85.00 + shipping.

Maywood Colony Receipt Maywood Colony Receipt

Foster & Woodson, Owners of the Maywood Colony, Receipt, 1900. This piece has wonderfully detailed vignettes of the orchards of C.F. Foster and W.N. Woodson, and of the Maywood Colony Office building. Central Bureau of Engraving, N.Y.

A fine example from a California Utopian Colony.

Price $15.00 + shipping.
